The St. John Monastry in Mustair (CH)

State boarders are artificial boundaries, and this is particularly true for the line separating Tubre (I) and Mustair (CH) in the Mustair Valley. But art knows no boundaries and just on the other side of the line you can find the St. John Monastry of Mustair, World Heritage by UNESCO.

The monastery was founded by Charlemagne in the 8th century and built on his behalf by the bishop of Chur. The frescos in the church date back to the Carolingian era, and precisely to the first four decades of the 8th century.
